Emma Burnett is a Sussex based artist who works in a wide variety of different media from oils and acrylics to watercolours and textiles - and is as happy working on a ten foot canvas as a greeting card. But what is always evident in her work is her confident use of colour. ‘Colour and energy are definitely my inspiration,’ she says. ‘That’s what motivates me – the wish to achieve an original, but balanced, colour combination. My work is very vibrant and people tell me it’s uplifting – which is lovely because my aspiration is to lift the spirits: I aim to make a room more cheerful. I find that people respond instinctively to colour - it has its own vitality.’
Emma draws her inspiration from her particular artist’s view of the world we live in: ‘Beach huts in the early morning, the shimmering colours of the sea at sunset, flowers and falling leaves - or just a certain atmosphere. I respond to the innate energy in things and have a strong desire to distil that by my use of colour.’ One reviewer described her work as: ‘Celestial light caught in a painting.’
According to ancient Tibetan teachings, colours reflect our prana; our vital life force. ‘The subtle manifestation of this can bring a sense of peace and joy and awaken awareness and wisdom.’ Or, as Emma says: 'I couldn't say that looking at one of my paintings makes you wiser... but I do hope they can give you pleasure!'
All commissions are welcome. Whether for the home, business entrance, restaurant or work place, a painting can draw together different aspects of a room and it can be impossible to chance across the right one for your space.
